Well learned something new today - Campy 10 content

My next project is going to be a Ritchey Breakaway with 10 speed Record/Athena 11 compact crank. I rooted through my FD box and found a nice 10 speed Compact FD but the clamp is too big, so I resigned myself to trying out a Chorus standard braze on FD with adapter. Wait a second though, what’s that Torx nut there? Turns out the clamp/braze on fittings are removable!

I’ve tinkered on Campy 10 speed parts for 15 years and never knew that.

Yes they are... good you have the other part to make it braze on, the beauty of campagnolo. Because that part is hard to find lately, havent seen new of those ones in a while.

Would love to put my hands in a couple of those braze on adapters to convert a couple of clamp on to braze on...

Yep, another wonderful feature of the gruppo that is the high water mark for Campagnolo, IMO.

Went away in 11 spd, unfortunately.

It wasn’t just 10. These parts were identical from late 8spd through 10 speed with the exception of the very late stuff that used an 11 speed style z mount. I don’t think the part numbers changed. I’ve swapped from 8 to 10 speed and they are absolutely identical. I’ve leveraged this for decades. My spare clamps were swiftly bought up when I sold them a while back.

You can use just about any 10s body, from any level. Below Chorus it will have a snap ring instead of an allen head, but still works across the range. I just got a brand new Veloce 10s braze-on front for ~$14 on eBay, swapped it onto the Chorus FD I wanted to use on my frame (that had a band clamp). Works a treat.

Actually last year was 2007(10s)..11s started in 2009. Record and Chorus became the one piece deal in 2008, Centaur and below still takeapart-able.

Early C-Record and Chorus also the same. A little more difficult but possible to swap clamp for brazeon..also was back to SuperRecord/Nuovo Record.

I could be wrong, but I think Campagnolo stopped making 10spd components a few years ago (but they continued well after they started making 11spd components). I think they still make 10spd spare parts, though.
