OT The car nut's mother load/ honey hole

I don't know if you've seen this already. But a foreign car salvage yard is going to be auctioned with a projected $50 million inventory. 50 years ago, it closed and it's been sitting. It includes the 1 of 1 black painted alloy Mercedes 300SL and another 300SL roadster. There are racks with more than 30 Porsche 356 cars in various levels of veing crashed. I seen videos from people who specialize in perfect restorations of the 356. I bet they're drooling to get to this auction. There are many Ferarri's, Lamborghini, Maserati etc.

As someone who watches more car content than bike content, let me assure you this is a dollar bill black hole. This is for the Jay Lenos of the world, and even he probably will be wary. He’s got a similar ‘regular’ 4-door sedan of this era and it sounds ‘complicated’.

It’d be cool if money were no object. One can dream.

Yeah, convert it to a wagon, paint it white with world championship stripes on the side, give it a Campagnolo logo and be sure to wear clogs with shorts for the photo.*

*Yes, this is a historical inside joke.

Replace the frame and suspension, put a modern engine and do the body work. Big old pro team roof rack for oodles of bikes and a white paint job with big old CAMPAGNOLO on the side and world champion stripes.

I'm amazed at some of this stuff.. utter perfect example of how much "Autopia" has taken over the collective mindset when something like a 100% rusted out Ferrari with no engine or wheels that looks like it was put through a trash compactor can be worth what they're asking.

Some of the examples on there are just mind blowing, sure they're rare but they are so heavily destroyed... it is amazing anyone would want to start with that for restoration. Some of them look like they got hit by locomotives!

A lot of the articles about this gloss over how these are really junkyard examples as opposed to relatively preserved barn finds.
