12 Speed cassette on Flo 11 freehub?
Hey folks, if I have a Flo brand wheel that is about 4 years old with shimano 11 on it, will a new shimano 12 speed cassette fit on it?
Thanks! |

Yes. Shimano 12 cassettes are backwards compatible with Shimano 11 freehubs.

I believe Shimano road 12-speed cassettes fit 11-speed freehubs but 12-speed MTB cassettes don't.

Thanks folks.
Follow up question - If you end up using the new SRAM 12 speed cassette, do you have to use their specific 12 speed chain, or will any shimano etc 12 speed chain work OK? I know with 11 speed it was all good, just not sure if you have to now use their odd looking chain with the one flat looking side... Thx! |

you said shimano in your first post. a sram 12 speed cassette will not fit on a shimano-11 freehub, just so you know.

Yup, I understand. Just trying to help a friend who is trying to decide on using a shimano cassette, or get a sram freehub and cassette for his wheelset, to go with a new 12 speed SRAM group.

A shimano 12 cassette can be used, but your top gear will be smaller without the 10T sprocket. A shimano 12 chain should work best for the cassette, but maybe not for the chain rings.
There are many posts about chain drops with SRAM AXS, but it's hard to know whether it's a chain ring problem or FD setup issue. I read posts that suggest that many people can't read and follow setup instructions. I've used Campy chorus and shimano grx cranks with AXS chain/cassette. Never a chain drop. |
