not totally challenging the side loading stress that wants to force the chain off of the pulleys, but if you look at old RearD cage designs, aren't they pretty flat? Would it be fair to say that the "embrace" of current cage designs is a refinement, but not strictly necessary?

I like it.

Can you rig it to change gears via cable-actuated spark and a small charge of black powder?

Nice! Now, dial it in and go up and down the cassette a few times...

Seriously, though... you're really gaining the watts today! PRs falling soon!

Hopefully the bigger narrow wide jockey will help with chain retention. And I already had the damaged cage and jockey wheels.

i do not miss my navy BCG's

the gap between the 11-16 seems too tight to me, but that is just visually based on the gap with regular and then upgrades like ceramic speed 13-19 pulleys.
how has it worked in the repair stand, or in real riding?

While this may be true, I had this happen to an unmodified rear derailleur about 25 years ago, and have the hardware in my wrist and nerve damage in my elbow to prove it.

Can't wait to see if this actually works....it's either going to be awesome or a crunching failure, but hey....looks like a fun little project either way!

No kidding all of these debbie downers...let's see if it works or not...I'm thinking, if the chain is proper length, it will..And yup, those 'tabs' DO help keep the chain on these relatively small teeth..hope it stays on 'em...

It's too bad you don't have a medium or long cage on that. It would probably work better. I am interested to see how this works....
