It was comically cheap by bike paint standards.

Picked up the bike earlier in the week, build out is pretty much done just have the seat mast and fork to trim down and then bleed the brakes.

Really trying to limit the branding on this build so decided to hit the Quarq arms with some wetsanding like I did on the English. This time I decided to go down just to the black primer on the middle of the arms but the raw carbon on the edges. A bit bummed how these turned out once I polished them so I'm going to go back and hit these a bit more to remove the sanding scratches. Might try and sand the black primer down a little in the middle to make some "patina".

Maybe hit them with a little red and yellow and sand back through for a more antique feel?

Debated that but I think it might be a bit too much. Really just want the frame to be the focal point.

Hi Kyle, what grade wet and dry did you start and finish with ? Dark colours even those with clear on top show up stuff much more so than pale solids also even if finishing with a fine grade the finish can be influenced by the grade you started with

Only did wet sanding on these but went 500>1500>2000>3000. I will admit my initial plan was to sand down to the UD all around so I got a little heavy handed initially trying to cut through this thick ass primer. I’ll probably go back and do like 600>1000 rounds and back to higher grade to finish and see if that clears it up.

Your initial 500 is the issue everything else is fine ,from experience in another trade we found slightly deeper 500 marks didn’t always come out even with all the subsequent grades to the point we often just suffered with a longer time with 1000 or 1500 to start with .So maybe try 1000 then the others,to put into context with some spray finishes 500 could even be the prep grade before spraying [mettalics etc].Great project and love the painted decal ,by reproducing something in another media is def smacks of pop art , makes me think of Lichtenstein’s thick hand painted versions of newspaper/comic print

Really looking forward to seeing how this beast built up.

Such a unique paint job. Can't wait to see it!

Thanks for the tip! I’ve got a third set of arms and will be sure to just suck it up and start with a finer paper if I decide to do it again. Threw these on the bike to finish up some build stuff and the scratches don’t catch light the same as they do directly under a bright shop light so I think I’m just going to live with them for a while. Easy enough to pull them off an hit them again.
