personal calling cards on rides?

Do any of you carry a calling card (and I'm talking the old fashioned type, not a phone calling card).

Just a Name & phone number, or perhaps you carry your business card, though I think that might have more info than you want to give out to a fellow rider.


Just curious what you do... I have on occasion wished I had something with my contact info to give to a cyclist I met along the way.

Years ago I looked into personal business cards. If I had any sense of style, I would have pursued it. I think they're a great idea if they look unique.

I think business cards are more effective than exchanging info to remember or even tapping it into a cellphone, because a business card is tangible, and there's something about having the physical item that adds value and makes me follow through.

I do volunteer work, cleaning the trails in my town's local park. I carry a small notepad and pen, and pass my info around that way when asked. It's been very effective.

Yup, I'll often carry a biz card in case I meet someone that I want to ride with again. Likewise, I have a mini Fisher Space pen in my small tool pouch that I put in my jersey.

Back when I ran my team I had team biz cards printed up with the team name, website and a phone number on them in case I met someone that I wanted to recruit for the team or the club.

While on a century, a guy gave me a special card he had made to hand out while riding. I thought that was a good idea, although I haven't done that. I didn't have my money/id in a baggie that day, so it got ruined by perspiration, and I never was able to ride with him again. If I wanted to get in touch, I'd send a message from my phone.

I'm usually nasty and smelly on rides. No one ever seems to want to know me (sniff, sniff). Calling Cards actually seems like a fun enough idea, though cellphones are so easy. "What's your number? (they give it, you dial) That's me. Gimme a call and we'll go climbing."

The director John Milius used to have a cool calling/business card. It read:

For exactly that reason, if I wanted to have a card to hand out I'd have some made in plastic (refrigerator magnet?) that could not be ruined by the other guy's sweat even if I had it safe on me.

i have "less than epic" cards that i carry regularly. they have a link to my blog, email and cell number. i find them fun and convenient to hand out to people i want to connect with again.

if you dont mind your cards saying "vistaprint" on the back, they are free with a few bucks shipping, so why not?

I always carry a pack of business cards with me now, being that cycling counts as being in the office for me.

I always, always keep a couple business cards and stickers in my saddle bag. Cell phone info trades are convenient but there's something about a tangible object...

Psprint.com is who I use for most printing needs, although largely because they have a location in Oakland and I can swing by and pick them up myself.

I keep a cycling wallet, the duct tape variety. In it:
- copy of my driver's license
- copy of my insurance card
- key contacts & med's list
- a couple business cards (you never know)
- lots of cash (lucky if I carry anything over 5 bucks)
- tire boot, thanks to Fedex

That's a great idea. I usually transfer stuff from my real wallet into a pocket on my tool pouch that goes in my jersey pocket. I am going to make copies and use a "cycling wallet".

In non cycling situations I usually have proper business cards with me. When I don't have the cards, such as when I am on the bike, I have my smartphone with me and just type in info there that I receive. Or I send a quick email with my contact info to anyone I may meet. It has happened a couple of time while cycling. I have often thought that I should carry a business card with me when on the road but I haven't yet.

I wear a Road ID too, but that obviously serves a difference purpose.
