Brompton G Line

20” wheels! Fat tires! Disc brakes!

If I didn’t already have 2 Bromptons, I’d probably buy one of these.

I think it looks awesome (just watched the GCN video), but I just can't make a case for a Brompton for me.. I don't use transit and I don't travel enough to consider using it that way..

I'd be curious as to why some folks own Bromptons.. they are super cool bikes for sure, I just always assumed it was a bike for folks that either 1. lived in a small apt and needed to maxamize space/could only have 1 bike () 2. and/or took transit every day and the Brompton made it a lot easier on either end.. Do folks who don't fit either of these own one and use it to just go on rides? That's awesome if you do BTW!

fourflys - I think that’s a fair question. The only reasons I bought mine are:
- they were a good deal, and it seemed Bromptons had relatively high resale.
- they come in handy on family road trips when I don’t want to have a bike hanging off the back of the car.

I occasionally use them when commuting but I prefer my other bike. Still a good backup bike to have.

I have this daydream while stuck in my office where I fly to a city with my wife or a kid and bike around the area. No Uber/taxi/bus. Just the Bromptons. (Which is actually coming into reality this fall!).

But in the end, it’s a luxury. No real need for it. But nice to have. And they tuck away nicely in the corner of the garage.

People who fly small airplanes to and from small airports often use folding bikes for getting from the airport to town and back. Folding bikes fit in small planes better, and there is often little ground transport available at small out of the way airports.

Folding bikes are also useful as “dinghies” for auto travel. In particular, if you are doing a road trip in an EV, you can use a bike to expand your choice of eating places while you recharge.

In my case the Tesla superchargers are often in shopping centers with limited dining options.

I also like to get some exercise rather than sitting in the car watching infotainment.

The Bromptons fold so small that they can be put in a grocery store shopping cart. This simplifies grocery errands, since you don’t have to bring a lock or find a bike rack.

I travel to Switzerland to ride trains around the country.
Next time I will get a Brompton. I can see a lot more of each town I stop in via bicycle than on foot.
At one time there was a Brompton shop in Zurich. The only bikes they sold were Bromptons. Not sure that worked out in the long run.

I've never ridden a Brompton, but this G model has some appeal to it. Like and perhaps want.

This would be my only hang up of buying this G Line.

I love how small my Bromptons fold up. And most of the time, small enough it may be carried on when flying. Not all the time but there’s always a good chance.

The G Line would definitely be checked in.
