Congrats and great move! Upon introduction the screen and back parts prices are so high it makes insurance worth it over third party repair. ATT also covers loss or theft which I believe Appple Care does not. About 6-9 months after introduction those spares prices drop enough so as to make the third party repair option more viable so that;s the time to drop ATT insurance and go without. Apple Care is simply not a good move if you have the ATT insurance option

wow that is outstanding. those gift cards have an expiry - so make note. thats a little nuance that people forget and some end up missing out.

Last Friday I took my iPhone 6S into an ATT store as I was not having much luck sorting out my options on the ATT site. The ATT employee was helpful.

When I walked into the store my plan was a family plan with 20g data shared amongst 3 lines. I had been on an unlimited plan since the Cingular days but we switched because it was advantageous a few years ago. The base rate for that plan was $90 plus $20 per line for a total of $150.

I changed our plan to an unlimited plan at a base cost of $150 with no per line charge. Net zero change in the monthly plan costs. This made me eligible to received a $350 credit for my iPhone 6S 64g which I did and walked out with an iPhone 12 mini 128g ($750 less $350). He asked my wife's (the primary account holder) employer, which is an accounting firm with a couple hundred employees, and found that somehow this upgraded my plan to where I now receive HBO Max via our ATT plan. This saves me $14.99/mo (I was already a subscriber).

Insurance on the new phone is $15/mo with a $179 deductible. I believe the rep said it is mandatory they add that amount but you can cancel it, which I will do.
I skip the Verizon/Assurion insurance, and instead pay up front for Apple Care, which is less expensive and has lower deductibles/service fees. I think you have 60 days from the date of purchase to buy Apple Care. I don’t bother with Apple Care+, which offers added theft protection.

Over the years, I have used Apple Care to replace an iPad with a cracked screen and a couple of iPhones for various reasons. IME, Apple Care is well worth the cost.

A lot of sales popped up for the SE. I picked up the 128 GB model for my daughter from Costco. $389 for an unlocked version.

I will get a cheap plan (Red Pocket) for her. $170 for a year for 3GB LTE/month with unlimited text/talk. This should be enough for a teenager, I hope.

Checking in on this thread and seeing if anyone else is loving the 12 mini as much as I am?
Man, this thing feels like a phone, and with a minimalist case like this it feels good in the pocket.

I’m liking my iPhone 12 Pro. I’m really liking the new beta iOS 14.5, which works with WatchOS 7.4 beta to automatically unlock the phone when your face is obscured with a mask. Hopefully, it will also work when wearing a helmet and cycling glasses.
