Colors you never knew you liked...

Ok, joosttx's Forty Four got me thinking. Not a color I'd ever pick myself, but I really dig it.

There was another bike posted here a bit ago, that was a lavender color that was also very subtle but chill looking, but I can't find it now.

Anything similar for you?

If it's lavender, maybe jtbadge's Thrive? That thing is dope.

Matt,

The color is the closest RAL gets to millennial pink. Ironically, it is called antique pink. I think what makes it the color is the matte finish which is called Casper Clear. I am told it increases durability but is very hard to keep clean. Cleaning hasnt been too big of an issue. You got to be careful about cleaning the drive train because grease stains show up easy but clean up just as easy with a spray or Resolve or Simple Green. I have yet to chip the paint after riding for about over 2000 offroad miles.

Im a sucker for anodized purple... the way Paul components does it

For sure, I think the matte finish totally changes the look, and I've been digging matte finishes lately -- regardless of color. Glad to hear it isn't too bad to keep clean!

PS. Got your message, love the story behind the color -- especially since I now have a daughter.

There were a couple of matte green gravel bikes at the Chicago swap meet Sunday, a Jamis and a Bianchi. Not a finish I would have ever thought of for a bike, but they both looked good and kind of stood out in the crowd of bikes. Here's the Bianchi:

When I was a kid I was into building plastic model cars, and for a brief time I was painting them candy colors (where you shoot a silver or gold metal-flake base coat and then a translucent color coat on top of that).

I had a model of a 1957 (?) Chevy panel van that I painted a candy sapphire blue that looked very much like those CK hubs! Definitely distinctive, and good looking.

If we're posting anodized bits, I have to include the Chris King anniversary "Olive Green" and their experimental "Bourbon" bits. Neither are colors I'd have wanted until I saw them.
