Looking at building one for my daughter.

A few questions:

Head angle?
Downtube size?
Chainstay length
Any drop to bottom bracket or just level with axles?

Thanks

Hi pdonk,
Thanks for the questions. I based the geometry off of what I could find online for similar bikes (Specialized Hotwalk, Islabikes Rothan, etc). These bikes don't have BBs though so who really knows about the geo measurements in the charts.

I also took some measurements of my son, inseam, sternal notch height, and arm length just to make sure things would work. I played around with the numbers in BikeCAD until I felt it looked good, all the while trying to make sure it could grow a bit with him.

I did wind up with some BB drop in order to get the saddle low enough for him. For a bike like this I'd say BB drop is really dependent on the kiddo's inseam (saddle height off the ground) and the wheel size you want to use. With all this said I certainly underestimated his growth rate and could have made the bike taller.

Here are the requested numbers from my son's bike, but it all depends. Having the wheels, saddle, bar and stem you'd like to use will be super helpful for designing.

HT angle: 69*
DT specs: 1.25", 0.035" cromo
CS length: 235mm (I can got a bit shorter or longer with the horiz. dropouts I used)
BB drop: 20mm

Hope this helps!

Thanks so much.

My process has been very similar, in terms of borrowing from existing info i can find on line.

My planned headtube angle is the same as yours, that is my biggest concern to ensure that the bike is stable and does not flop too much. Other tubes similar. Glad i am on the right track.

I am doing this with my neighbour, who is an expert metal worker, and will post pics in the custom section once they are done.
