New wheels
Hello everyone. My first post so please bear with me. I would like to have my bike shop build me some custom wheels. I was set on Zipp 303s, but I realized that for the cost, my bike shop could build something that is not seen everyday. Thinking of Chris King R45 hubs, appropriate spokes, such as DT or Sapim. Here's the quandary. I would like carbon clincher rims. What are some options other than purchasing Enve rims? I am not against them, but would like 3 options. About 30-45 mm rims. I am 6 feet tall and 190 lbs. aluminum rims are fine but I already have 3 good wheelsets. Never had carbon wheels. Thank you in advance.

The new Reynolds Assault SLG wheels appear to be very nice, and the rims are available separately (e.g., from Wheelbuilder.com). Its a newer offering and that's the direction I would recommend, although I'm sure any one of a number of carbon rims will work satisfactorily. You can read up on them on the Reynolds website.

If the Enves are within your budget, get them.

For what it's worth, King laces rims in house to Enve rims.

No personal experience, but Corima makes super nice rims.

Thankx for the responses. The bike shop does build Enve. Not sure if it will be in budget. I have not seen Corima in some time. Used to see them on the Pinarello Princes! Reynolds have come a long way. Appreciate the input.

Bora One 35 can be had for much less than Enve if bought from UK. Very sweet wheels.

Indeed, I missed that part of the OP. On the other hand, perhaps he should think of moving over to the dark side.

R45's are the new black.
Go here: http://www.luxewheelworks.com/ and enjoy the magic that is Royce. EDIT: save the money on the carbon clinchers and spend it on better hubs and alloy tubulars. You will appreciate the quality and you can always lace them up to some carbon clinchers if you just have to have the deep dish look down the road. Last edited by JonSnow; 04-01-2014 at 07:08 PM. |

Thankx for the input. I am considering Chris King R 45 hubs with Sapim spokes and Zipp 303 rims! Haven't committed to a final wheel yet.

November will sell the Rail52's & the new 34's rims separately, as well.
