Campagnolo shifter issues

So,
My basicly unridden 15 year old Record shifter is acting up. I recabled and cut everything really well. It acts like there is cable tension. Upshifts suck. Like there is cable drag somewhere. I have the cable untaped from the bar so there are no weird angles. Just cant get it right. Downshifts are smooth and good. Thoughts?

Did you grind the cable housing ends flat?

Seems okay. I pulled the shifter and checked it with nothing hooked up. Works.
Something I noticed, there is a big bend in the shifter housing where it comes up then turns to go under to hood. I think these take a ferrel there correct? That ferrel is not helping the bend. When I untaped the cable from the bar, the cable went slack ut the shifting still sucked.

In the cable guides under BB. Cable running under bridges and not over? Running in the track?

Checked it. Then replaced it.

If the upshifts are spongy and vague, then it's a busted G-spring and carrier.

I was going that direction.

I put on a Veloce cassette to get a 28t top. Took it off and reinstalled the Record 12-23 and the shifting is perfect. Quick and crisp. With the Veloce cassette it shifts fine on the top. Both up and down. Jumps around on the third and fourth cog when going down the cassette. Chain is new and sized properly. Hanger is dead on, checked with the tool.
Maybe this bike dosent want a whimp out 13-28?

I could be mistaken, but I think there are NO ferrules into the Ergo body. That's why the housing end has to be as square as possible.

I think that happened around 2009. These are like 1999 or so. I am not sure either. That could be the issue though.

Well. It seems the bend coming out if the shifter is the issue. New Campagnolo housing, new cable= not happy. What gives?

Not true, ERGO 1998 thru 2009(11s) DO use ferrules for DER housing, none for brake. 2011 Gumby shape, no ferrules in lever. Gent said 15 years old, 2003, yes der housing ferrules.

Is the clicks ‘clicky’ up and down? Could be spring and/of spring carrier. Send it to me and I’ll fix it.

It clicks fine, just does not seem to index well going down the cassette.

In my opinion the carrier got soft in the dude, IME the 1st indication is that upshift sucks because the cable needs to pull tension, down is not like a big problem because is the RD spring the one that helps to pull the cable.

The other option is that he is using shimano cable and the head of the cable is off the cable spooler. In that case he needs to just dremel the head of the cable to fit and good to go.
