+1. They're higher pitched, but my Bitex/BikeHubStore hubs are louder than my R45s or T11s.

Why do people like loud hubs? They're obnoxious, certainly on road bikes.
I get the need for instant engagement on an MTB and that is reality but reality is that on road bikes they're like unmuffled Harleys. And folks who say, "just keep pedaling!" have never ridden in mountains or in groups. My DT-Swiss are tolerable and my best ones are my Campagnolo but they're all old and worn in and have plenty of grease in the pawls. Of my newer hubs, the Wheels Mfg. are the nicest sounding. Very muted but mechanical and precise sound. WI are next. I work around abrasive, screeching noise in my day job. I don't like noise for the sake of noise in my free time. CK hubs are noisy. That's my $.02 and I'm sticking to it. Now get off my lawn while you're at it. |

So how do I quiet down a Chris king classic design hub?

240s on Rovals and Lightweights. Not a big deal on the Mean Streets of LA.

The lightweight rear disc is one of the loudest wheels I've ever encountered, but that's because the whole damn thing is acting like a speaker for the DT hub hiding in there. |

Zipp 303 nsw. Rare in the wild. Drives others nuts. Like a bunch of broken part rolling around... “where is that noise coming from...what is it..”

I love loud hubs. I think it comes from being a kid and not having a bike that made noises when you didn't pedal, like the big kids did.
I'd have to agree with the consensus though: CK and DT are loud, but the I9's take the cake. it's hilarious going MTB'ing when a bunch of people are running them. you can always tell how far away your buddies are by whether or not you can hear their freehub raging. the newer Mavics are pretty noisy too, for factory built wheels. speaking specifically of the Cosmic Pro Carbon SLC, but I know others use the same hubs. |

Don't do this.[/QUOTE] Holy **** — don’t do this is right! DT star ratchets, when freshly and properly greased, make very little noise. Even the 54t ones. Louder if you use freehub oil. Just require frequent reapplication (and cleaning what oozes out). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
