Shimano Freehubs for Zonda C17/Modern Record Hubs?
I'd like to get a couple Shimano 10/11 freehubs for my C17 Zondas and wheels with newer version Record hubs. Does such a thing exist ?
The idea is that I want to run 9/10 speed Shimano mtb cassettes for the lower gearing. (using a Shimano 591 RD). |

Thanks OP!
I think I'll get one of each. I'll need to put bearings in them? Quote:

I had to replace a Zonda hub, Shimano compatible for the same. It was a straight up switch, no adding or changing, no special instructions or tools. IIRC, those freehubs are interchangeable.

Any opinions on alloy vs steel freehub bodies? |

As for which..aluminum one is softer but Campag cogsets aren't really known to dig in..steel one is heavier, but not 'heavy'... I'd get the steel one, easier to keep clean.

It's true that the longer splines of Campagnolo cassettes aren't really known to dig into aluminum freehubs with Campagnolo compatible splines - but the OP is asking about freehubs with Shimano compatible splines. Shimano splines are shorter, with less contact area, and these are known to dig into aluminum freehubs. Which is probably why Campagnolo offers their Shimano compatible freehubs in steel as well as aluminum.

I hadn't thought of that.
I ordered the steel ones based on OP's suggestion and thinking about what I was going to do with them. Which is to say put big heavy 10 speed MTB cassette on them for low gearing (34x34) using a Deore 591 RD, shiftmate and Campy 10 spd shifters. |
