Odd Forum Behaviour?
Happened to be travelling this weekend, and dropped by The Paceline without logging in.
For the first time, I could not see all of the sub-forums--the only one that showed was the 'Rides, Events, Gatherings' sub-forum, and any attempt to go anywhere else was met with a 'You must log in...' message. I know this doesn't affect those of us who are logged in users, but we may be closing the door to those who drop by to lurk (and who may open an account and join the discussion...) Update/second thoughts: Could this be a problem only if I had previously logged in on that device? Asking this because I see a number of Guests currently browsing... What I was experiencing happened both on my MIL's computer that I was updating, and my phone. Last edited by paredown; 03-25-2024 at 06:00 AM. |

This is not just you. I believe this was a change made to deal with forum slowness caused by a very large number of crawler bots.
AngryScientist may know more. Anecdotally, it does seem to have reduced traffic to the classifieds, possibly as a result of a loss of organic google traffic. |

I think you have to be logged in to see everything. VSalon is the same way.

Now you can't, so something changed, so I was curious about it. |

I changed it to not be viewable to non logged in members.
There used to be, on any given weekday morning, roughly 100 registered users logged in and roughly <1000 guests viewing the site. At one point a few weeks ago it was >6000 guests viewing the site and the forum had a massive slowdown. I made the change and it solved the slow down issues. Yes, it's a temp band-aid and we need a new strategy. I've been beyond busy lately, and still waiting to see how Keith makes out, and we will have to do some heavy lifting to overhaul stuff.

As the one person “tech team” for a guitar website (V-Bulletin) for 16 years… and I’m not a tech guy past the basics… my hat is off to those of you doing the heavy lifting here behind the scenes.
Some idiot came along and planted a virus in our host space and I just took the site down, as I didn’t know how to fix it and was out of energy dealing with it. FB had pretty much ruined the daily traffic on it before then, anyway. Thanks for what y’all do! Gary Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
