I'm dubious of the benefit(s) but, as they are cheaper than replacement ultegra rings (basically $200), some of my friends have recently bought Absolute Black rings and like them. One thing no one has mentioned is that they allow you to use "standard" Shimano 4 bolt cranks and get a subcompact 32T low ring, which may be a good option in general for gravel/steeps.

Here's another, the rear der is consistently moving back and forth with the repeated pattern of the oval. The greater the oval the more movement.
Not sure if this means anything in regards to the longevity of the rear der. Also there has been lots of talk regarding friction and loss of watts. I wonder if there has been any study regarding this and ovals.

They run single speeds with oval rings, so there is minimal to none effect on chain length and derailleur cage movement.
