Paul Neo Retros + Front rack

Apologies if this has been brought up but I wasn’t able to find info on this.

I’m in the process of piecing together parts for my new Ebisu build. I have a set of Neo Retros for the front brakes I plan to use. I would also like to use small front rack that bolts to the cantilever brakes themselves instead of using other front racks that I’d have to p-clamp to the fork blades.

I have the brakes but I have not bought a rack yet and I have not purchased the Paul rack adapter bolts yet.

What I have read online is that the rack adapters because of how big they are push the front rack out significantly and I read on an old BikeForums thread the OP had to bend the legs of the rack to fit them.

Do any of you have experience mounting the front rack with the Paul adapters? Are there other bolts I can use (e.g. - some make shift long bolt + potential spacers)?

I will get the Paul adapters if I have to but:
a) I don’t want the headache of it not being compatible with a front rack I buy
b) It’s just kind of ugly given how large and obtrusive it is.

Hoping to find photo examples of other solutions or just photos of how the Paul adapters have worked well for you.

Thanks in advance!

The Compass/Nitto rack has adjustable canti arms.

Yes, the rack adapters are ugly, I ended up using 1 for light a mount,
that worked nicely.

I was worried about this same setup when I built up my Ebisu All Purpose a few years back. I'd read about the problems with front racks and Paul cantis. FWIW, I'm using a Nitto M-12 and Shimano BR-R550 cantis. The fit is perfect, with no adjusting to the front rock needed. It's also quite level. Was surprised by how good the braking power is on the BR-R550s. I had a crossbike running neo-retros front and rear, and feel that the braking with the Shimanos is just as good. All depends on setup and pad quality I suppose.

I have an M12 mounted on Paul rack adapters with Mini-Motos. It fits level, the top mount that goes through the fork crown hole is adjustable. We did have to bend the struts to match the boss spacing, but it is not noticeable.
