SRAM AXS / DUB crank and OVAL chainring 1x advice - OPEN WI.DE. build

Anybody here got recent experience with running SRAM cranks with any of the major brands who make OVAL chainrings? A lot of conflicting info online and the new SRAM DUB and direct mount standard with direct mount is confusing things a little more. I've got a set of Force AXS cranks in the correct length and ordered the CX 42T oval chainring from Absolute Black that I thought was compatible, but now it seems that I might have it wrong and I might need to go with XX1 cranks for that chainring. Wonder if anyone has any ideas? Thanks!

Wolftooth has a 1x that is compatible with AXS but it's round. The AB's state their not compatible with 12s AXS. And none of the Rotor oval are compatible with the AXS cranks. I have read of people using an 11s crankset with a 12s chain for AXS. Yes the chain is narrower but seemed to work.

So much confusion as the chainring that I ordered says this on the AB website;

"Compatibility:-
