Pogliaghi project

Picked this up cheap on ebay-its a Rossin era Pogliaghi, with a poor repaint-decals applied over paint, no clear, and the ugliest Pog decal set ever. The rear stays and forks are chromed, but mostly painted over as received. I suspect its the "cheap" Columbus tubeset that Rossin used-Matrix-he also built these with sl and slx, but the slx ones that I've seen have slx stamped in the bb. This doesn't, and the steerer isn't ridged. But wanted it anyway, as my first "good" bike was a Basso era Pog that met a garage door death. There's a nice 52 of those on the bay now, but its $900.

Fast forward after a couple days with stripper and a razor blade, then some dremel polishing.

Interesting that Rossin used his lugs on the Pogs and just filled in the R. Theres also a set of his seatstay caps on ebay now that say Pogliaghi on one side and if you flip them Rossin on the other.

These were mostly painted solid conservative colors, but I'm thinking of leaving the stays chrome from the bb lug to the brake bridge, and the fork chrome as well (it still needs its finish polish). For paint, I'm going to use self etching primer, then thinking a copper metallic base with red candy over, unless someone convinces me that's too inappropriate. Will decal after the candy then 2k clear.
Build is going to be friction, mid 80s sr rd and similar gen fd, diacompe grand comp aero levers, campy monoplaners, chorus aero seatpost and ambrosio clinchers.

Looking forward to seeing progress on this. I have refinished a couple Rossins, it's interesting to see that the headlug of yours is exactly the one I have seen stripped down, of course the R was not filled in with brass. I think you color instincts are good, seems that the chrome on the stays is in decent shape to. I'm staying tuned in.

Wonderful! In the mid 1970s I saw a purple Pog track bike in my LBS that made me weak in the knees. Still dream about it sometimes. There was something in the proportions that was perfect.

Wish I had the patience to do this type of work. Best I've ever done is hand off a frame to a powdercoater. Well done, glepore!

A mix of Campy stuff-downtube shifters, SR rd, victory fd, monoplaners, athena hs, chorus aero post. Ambrosio clinchers. The hangup is the crank, going to try a cheap chinese 110 that "might" polish up ok. Campy 110's that look appropriate are unobtainium.

Chome need final polish. Torn about whether to leave it polished or mask when I clear. Decals are from an ebay seller in OZ and are VERY nice for vinyl and easier than waterslide. Will look deeper after final clear.

Clear complete. Build started. One issue has arisen- steerer cut too short for Campy Athena hs that I have, hs fits but not locknut. Think I can get away with that on a low mileage bike? Previous hs was a King, which just looks wrong.
