Which model did you go for? CPO?

A decent pot hole (or 4X4 construction debris) and you would be buying 4 wheels for that thing. Pretty useless for long distance trips. Bet it drives good.

Expensive, limited functionality, and prone to breakdowns. Cool looking tho.

Thanks everyone! I love it, it has always been a dream car of mine and saved for a while to be able to pull the trigger. Some background on my switch and answers to peoples questions. I had my 2017 Outback 2.5i for 3 years. In that time it was repeatedly in the shop for issues. I grew increasingly frustrated with it over time but it wasn't until we took a family road trip that tipped me over the edge.
- Making passes on 2 lane highways was extremely dangerous due to how slow the car was and the responsiveness of the CVT transmission. 175hp in a nearly 4000lb car is a joke. It's 2020, get with the times and get some power. There are plenty of 4 cylinder engines out there making much more than that. - The braking is horrendous with how heavy the car is and how small the brakes are. - Going through some parts of Montana, I couldn't cruise control any higher than 90 (Why???). - The infotainment system is complete dogsh*t. I know they have improved this a bit in the newer models though. - Lane assist beeps at me all the time, involuntary braking with cruise control on, etc. Anyways, all those bigger issues and quite a few small ones just added up and as soon as we got back from the trip, I sold the car. I've had 4 amazing pre 2006 Subarus and I loved them all. But that being said, I would never recommend a new one to someone until they catch up with the times. 1. @jwin - It's a 2018 E63S, non-CPO but it was still under original warranty. It took me nearly 8 months to find one since wagons are so rare in the US and I had specific options I wanted on the car. 2. @ralphy It's fine on long distance road trips. Just blasted down to Oregon and back and no issues for 700 miles. But thank you for your concern...lol. 3. @rnhood - Limited functionality? I would argue it does plenty better than the Outback: - It is significantly faster and more responsive - It stops quicker - Better sound system and comfort - I have a hitch that I can mount my bike rack or trailer to - Where we live, 70mph freeways and hilly, it gets nearly the same gas mileage - I can raise or lower the car if I need to go off the beaten path. It's not going to go on anything super gnarly but I don't really do that so no issues. - It has significantly more usable cargo space than my Outback. - No breakdowns yet in the 4000 miles I have put on it. My Outback had been in the shop twice at this point...just sayin. 4. @mikej / @fmradio516 - It's pretty good in the snow if you throw some all-season or winter tires on it. Right now it has summer race tires on 21s, so not the best. I have the original wheels with winter tires as back up. Last edited by dieonthishill; 07-01-2020 at 01:37 PM. |
