Depends on where in Loudoun you're riding. LOTS and LOTS of subdivisions that don't connect and busy roads till you get out towards Rt 15.

Western Loudoun and northern/western Fauquier are fantastic. Ditto with Rappahanock

It's nice to read a good story like that today, thanks for sharing. I've never ridden around there before, I should get up there some time.

Great story

Thank you for posting/linking.
I've ridden Mt. Weather many times, but never have I climbed it via the gravel road (whenever I visit the area, I always have my road-is bike). I guess I know what I'll have to do next time!
Great insight into the history of the place - as well as your Family - much appreciated!

Agree, a great story and well written. Even learned something from it.

There is a lot of great riding in Western/Nw Virginia. I have not been up towards Winchester and Mt. Weather, but I've ridden the mountains around Monterey. And its outstanding. Just the trek down Bluegrass Valley is like knocking on the door of heaven.

Thanks for the comments, folks.

Gummee is right about the specifics of where to ride in Loudoun County and about northern/western Fauquier and Rappahanock!

My connection to that area in particular makes the rides that much more special.

The uncle I mentioned in my story who built his own house was written about a few times in the Washington post. Uncle Vernon was as solid as they come and also a construction supervisor who happened to supervise the construction of the bunker currently in the White house. Yes, that same one that Trump checked in on a few weeks ago. I couldn't load everything into the story I submitted to the Radavist.

Every time I ride past the cemetery, I make a stop. I was there a few weeks ago on this 39 mile gravel route through Western Loudoun County and Fauquier County
