Minneapolis area has a pretty solid page on FB called twin cities bike trader. Only joined FB to sell and I got asking for a whole bunch of stuff from wheelsets to complete bikes. If your area has something similar, you’re probably good to go.

I'm 1 for 4 on FB Marketplace, buying stuff.

All the same stupid problems of Craigslist, except the pictures are better. People unwilling to confirm a pickup time, people unable to answer their messages, ads left up after the item is sold etc.

I will say though that things priced aggressively seem to sell pretty fast, so I think it is getting a lot of traffic.

(The search also delivers a lot of random crap that FB thinks is related to what you are looking for.)

The general marketplace has kind of sucked, but I came across this facebook group:

Online Swap Meet for Cycling and Triathlon

You have to request to join and there are some ground rules. I've sold a bunch of stuff there and I've had a bunch of low ball offers as well, but it's one more place to sell.

I've also picked up some nice stuff there.

Had a frame that got no attention here but sold for asking on this marketplace.

I don't mind, I just politely tell them no thanks.

I find the facebook marketplace to command lower priced offers than craigslist, so great for buyers bad for sellers. I think this sentiment was reflected above as well.

A big advantage of FB MP is that you have the ability to see the buyer or seller’s Facebook profile. On two occasions I lost interest in bikes after seeing that the sellers were major weirdos and possibly dangerous. There are occasional good deals on the Northern Virginia FB of the kind that used to show up at thrift stores, such as the $25 Fuji Club my wife spotted for me.

I've had good experiences with Facebook market place but I HATE the interface. Hard to search for items, vague categories and all the results are algorithmic which can be annoying.

I made a sale today with FB MP. It had to be a local sale as it was a cheap complete bike. A Schwinn Loop folder. I had about 15 messages in 3 days with 3/4 of them either, "is it still available" with no follow up or a low ball offer. 1 guy said he could come on Monday and he did. The usual ask of can I take $10 less. Of course that part was built into the price so the sale was made.

The ad was also on CL and I had 3 meaningless inquiries with no follow up.

I think I have come to the conclusion that whether it's FB, CL what have you I just don't want to do anymore face to face selling. It just takes too much time to deal with time wasters, tire kickers etc. I think I would rather pack up the "thing" and ship it to the stranger on the other end, or maybe a known person here on PL. My 2¢ worth.
