Campy for my peg

I have done a bunch of reading in the forums. I have a Peg. It really deserves an italian groupset. The ribble posting elsewhere is serving as motivation. I don't care about weight nor do I particularly care about 11 spd vs 10 spd.

I am not thrilled with the extra tools necessary for PT vs UT, but on the other hand I am kind of a tool hog so what the hell if it comes to that...

All that said, I was leaning towards silver athena on purely aesthetic grounds. But Ribble is out of the compact crank I would want 170/50-34.

So my options:
1) std crank athena -- not the end of the world
2) silver veloce -- cheaper, crank I want
3) buy from shinybikes which seems to have similar prices and has athena silver with compact crank

In my brief surfing around, people do seem to enthuse about Ribble and have occasional issues with Shinybikes -- but not an exhaustive sample.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Also, if you think I am making a big mistake and should just get Chorus happy to hear that too...

None of the above. Chorus 11 (with Chorus calipers), $1060-ish, shipped from Ribble. A Pegoretti deserves nothing less, imo. Here's mine, full 2013 Chorus (compact) with Record calipers.

I certainly would. That's a lovely bike, with a great build.

I hear you. You could make the same argument for slamming the stem. But the fact is, I am first and foremost all about what performs best for my needs. I just turned 60 and my flexibility just isn't what it used to be. I also live on a road with 2 sections of 18 and 20 grade on it. That said, I wouldn't mind having one of the new ('ugly') Campy cranks with the exchangeable rings....

So it looks like a proper race bike and not a cross bike. Just a minor aesthetic concern...

OK. Right.

Then we better cut down that long, dorky head tube, too

Don't know why. I guess on my Molteni Merckx I should have a 52/42 and a 13-21 freewheel, and clips and straps, but no thanks.

I think that Climb is pulling your 11 speed chain.

This. Just having some fun. Pegs seem best with traditional bits, but even more so, Pegs are best just plain ridden. So whatever bits make you smile while riding, those are

May also add if relevant that I picked up a pair of used protons hear awhile back -- it would be my intention to use them as my wheelset. Googling around seems to indicate they work with 11 speed, though I did find an oblique reference to "well known problems with 11 speed... of course not actually stating what those problems are..."
