yeah, the elevation profile on the Cross Mountain is interesting, would not want to do a ride next day after this.

I think I'll do it. I've ridden most those roads on my own and some of them are real real good. Kinda just want to do it to support cycling events in the Catskills.

Absolutely, same here. I am 1 hour away from there and could do it anytime but nice support and ride with some locals as I usually ride alone. Let me know if you end up doing it, I will most likely do it. Overlook bikes, that puts on the event are good dudes too. They are my favorite local shop.

What size tires?

What kind of bike? What size tires do most people run for this event? What is the smallest size you could use?

I registered.

On tires...I've ridden these roads on 700c 35mm Gravel King SK's and 650b 42mm Compass Babyshoes. I did just fine but I am not aversed to underbiking. If its wet I'd want some tread on the tires but still light and fast rolling on pavement - maybe a Thunderburt or similar. If it's dry, I think 48 mm Compass SBH would be ideal. Or if they come out in time I'm hoping to try their new 650b 48 mm knobby Steilacoom for whatever the conditions are.

I would not go it on something like a 28 mm.

Photos look like some people are on fatbikes/mtbs. I'll be on a rim brake rando-style road bike.

I rode Mary Smith Hill Rd going north from Lew Beach two or three years ago. It was in pretty rough shape, and I played it safe and walked my bike on two miles of the descent. I was on 28mm tires.

I will definitely not be on 28s and hopping by then it will be in better shape. I just got some of those sweet juniper tires so it should be fun.

Bumping this up to see who else is in.

I will be suffering it up pretty bad, I had a great start of the year but this job is not letting me put in as many miles as I would like.

2 weeks left...

I’ll be there.

Glad to have feedback on the course; I haven’t ridden a ton in the Catskills but my experience so far is that where the roads are dirt they are pretty smooth and 28s should be fine.

It sounds like I should bring the D2R2 bike, not the road bike with 28s tho?

Yes I would bring the d2r2 bike over 28's.

These two photos I took on Mary Smith Hill Rd (pretty sure). It may not look crazy but it is steep and I would not have liked that descent on 28's.
