Black fly challenge

Anybody going to do the black fly this weekend? I am considering it and haven't ever tried it before.

I am. I've done it 4 or 5 times before and west bound is my preferred direction. 8-10 miles paved then 25ish miles of dirt then a short paved section with 1 mile of mostly downhill single track to the finish.

Weather looks like it's shaping up to be a good day.

Yes, the weather looks great and as long as my wife gives me the go ahead I'll be there. What kind of tires do you typically run?

I've gone a little bigger each year, once (and never again) on a fat bike...

I'll be sticking with my 45mm WTB Riddlers that I rode at the Lu Lacka Wyco and the Farmers Daughter. Hoping I have better luck than I had at either of those events (both DNFs.)

It is a point to point ride, so you'll need to arrange transportation on way. There is a shuttle, but the AM one is sold out, not sure about the PM.

Good to know. The local bike shop crew will be there, so hopefully I can arrange a ride back with them. I have a set of Riddlers here, but I'm not sure if I can fit them on any of my bikes just yet.

I would just go as big as you can, tread seems to be less of an issue for most folks. Schwalbe G-ones would be plenty of tread barring a very wet day.

Most of the “gravel” is sandy and can be soft in spots when it’s either very wet or very dry.

The guys at the lbs said the rain we've had should make for good riding conditions on Saturday. I still need to figure a few things out before I commit, but am leaning towards going. Thanks for the insight!
