SF people.. Lael Wilcox should be rolling through Golden Gate Park around lunchtime

The spot tracker is lagged, but she just left the Marin Museum of Bicycling in Fairfax at ~11:05am.

I rode out to Forest Knolls to meet her and rode back as far as Camino Alto, there was a good group of riders and folks cheering along the way.

Looks like she'll be on some of the roads I ride near my house in far western St Louis.

And on some of the roads I'd stay away from due to traffic, car speed and lack of a shoulder - I assume she'll have a follow car, which should keep people from running her off the road (or worse).

FWIW she didn't have a follow vehicle for the section I rode with her (although those roads are well-established cycling routes w/ bike lanes/wide shoulders).

From Wikipedia - this is in-f'ng-sane !!!

Round the world attempt

On 26 May 2024, Wilcox started an 18,020-mile (29,000 km) journey round the world, starting in Chicago, US, which she intended to complete in about 110 days, beating Jenny Graham's record by a fortnight. This requires an average of 164 miles (264 km) a day, cycling for 12 to 14 hours a day.[23]

Hmmm. Well, all the best to her.

Depending on when she comes through here I may go out to cheer her on.

I rode out to Golden Gate Park to meet her. The group following her was several dozen strong. She was leading the pack and clipping along at a good pace. She gave a wave while waiting at a light to turn onto the Great Hwy. I managed to snap a crappie pic and then turned back. Really impressive especially considering the miles she's already covered.

Lael riding through SF

This was the group from the bridge, by the time we got the JFK Drive in Golden Gate Park, there was another group waiting and the riders easily doubled in numbers!

If you have alternatives, she has taken suggestions from people on how to alter her route. I think she's going with Bikecentennial routes across the US?

I'll check with the most active LBS (Big Shark ) and see if they are in contact with her.

Louis pal, you don't have to go through any intermediary, Lael is the most approachable person on the planet, you can either ride up to her and tell her yourself or send her an email: lael.wilcox@gmail.com
https://www.laelwilcox.net/about/contact

On her website, she explained how she came up with the routes:

"I’m riding Adventure Cycling Association routes in the lower 48: Chicago to New York, the Pacific Coast and the Route 66. They do such a wonderful job including scenic secondary roads and bike infrastructure along the way."

I used ACA Texas Hill Country routes as a basis for putting together a tandem tour a few years back. In fact, Weisan pal rode with us on the depart out of Austin.

This aint about gear but if you are interested there is a rundown of her rig posted somewhere.
