semi-OT: anyone know of a place to have simple parts machined/printed

i need a spacer made with the following dimensions...anyone know of an online source to input simple dimensions and have something machind/printed from aluminum or a fairly hard plastic?

alternatively, any paceliners with a lathe that would be willing to make two of these?

for something this simple, i can fab the spacer out of wood using my drill-press as an ersatz lathe.

- drill 18mm hole thru small square piece of ~10mm plywood.
- bolt the wood onto a threaded rod chucked into my drill-press.
- use whatever cutting/sanding/grinding implements to take the OD down to ~33.5mm

voila!

I've not used them, but heard good things about Send Cut Send

Might be what you're looking for.

If it's just one piece, I'd call a few machine shops in the area and ask around. They'd probably be able to use some scrap to turn it from.

Otherwise, I think a spacer made from delrin could be an option. I think a machine shop might be able to turn that as well.

I was able to spec a simple wedge on one of the online sites (can't remember which one). Then I shopped the design around (uploaded to multiple sites) and got quotes on 3d printed plastic, delrin, aluminum, and even titanium.

Pretty interesting experience. Unbelievable how easy it is to do, especially with simple shapes.

If you google a bit, you'll find way too many resources...kind of fun to go down that rabbit hole. I don't remember which I used...

After all this you're going retail? Where's the adventure in that?

sendcutsend

I'll second the recommendation of sendcutsend.com
But I would think that something like what you're looking for definitely exists off the shelf. If not, sending a cad or illustrator file to SCS should be easy. They do have order minimums though.

I was going to suggest sendcutsend. Did you get what you asked for in the OP?

If I only needed 2, I would probably machine them on my lathe. I could probably be convinced to make you some.

MTB Tools. He has an online and eBay presence, happy to carve custom spacers, very fast, excellent work. He made the custom spacers for my Peg and Sachs builds, got the taper and sizing correct, had them in a couple days. Am out of town ATM but can shoot you his contact info on Tuesday.

Great guy, too!

I thought it was mandatory to purchase a tool for each new project. Because bits could be considered consumable, do that mean that they don't count?

Yes, simple lathe project.
I can easily make those for you from pretty much any material.
Send me a PM if you’d like.

sendcutsent parts are in

surprisingly roughly finished. like...terrible.

ID was on the tight side, needed to open it up with my lilliputian 3-jaw chuck and file. OD was fine, just really rough.
