Gios Super Record Devolution

When I purchased this ’80 Gios frameset nearly 10 years ago I built it up with with Campy Chorus/Record 10-speed from the parts bin and Fulcrum wheels — a step-up from the mish-mash of Shimano parts that came with it.

Earlier this week I finished returning the Gios to its vintage heritage — ‘80s Campagnolo Super Record.

Before:

After:

I took it out for a shake down ride yesterday — have to regain the feel for down tube shifting, but it rides smooth and quiet. Only needed to tighten up the headset and adjust the rear break a touch. Purists might object to the SpeedPlay pedals, but oh well. I’m not giving up clipless pedals.

Finally, a couple of forum shout-outs to:

oldpotato - for building a marvelous set of wheels (H+Son TB14 rims/vintage Record hubs) — a good part of the reason for the smooth ride.

veggieburger - for providing the final piece of the puzzle, a Campy SR 51T chainring.

Looks great. I especially like the tricolore tape. The small things count, yo.

Had all the Shimano 600 Tricolor ready for this and it languished in the stand for months, finally handed it off to Unpredictable to finish it!

The frame will probably end up being a little small, but I wanted to get on (or off-) the road after a long time waiting. Joe Murray-era Kona Cinder Cone. Building with a wide range 1x10 Shimano drivetrain, XTR v-brakes, 2.1" Nanos on XT/Mavic wheels, and sweepy bars. Just needs a headset and a basket.

Well, last night I put this, new to me, Evan's Bike back together. Want to get some test rides in on it before I get the paint fixed and build it into it's final configuration.
