I wish I knew where there were 10+ miles of nice pavement on PCH! I go to some extreme lengths to minimize the amount of time I spend on that road.

I lived in Camarillo for about 2 years and rode onto PCH all the time..down towards Santa Monica, thru Malibu, past Pepperdine, Zuma beach and I seem to remember it being VERY nice..'course that was 30 years ago()...has it gotten crappy?

Ekar problems

Hello- new to this forum and an Ekar owner....

LBS says my new Ekar rear caliper is leaking at the interface of the
the two halves.... Torx bolts have been checked and we are trying to
get Campy USA to warranty the caliper.
Problem is, they don't answer the phone nor do they (East Coast rep)
return messages....

Any suggestions?

“Crappy” might be an overstatement, but in most places it’s very far from what I would consider “nice” (the OP’s word). There are some sections with lots of potholes/drains so that when riding in a group if your buddies are negligent about pointing them out you can suffer. I broke a Bora rim thanks to one such incident.

More consistently problematic is the accumulation of glass and other obstacles on the shoulder since they rarely sweep it.

Not quite how it always works, overseas purchase could equal no warranty thru Campy.

Many Campag and other maker’s bike parts come from ‘alternative distribution streams’, called gray or even ‘black’ market, ‘out the back door’ stuff, even factory seconds that may not have a ‘warranty’. A lot of these online places ‘self warranty’ because they know the stuff they are selling is ‘back door’. But, give Jerry a call but don’t be surprised if he asks the same question.

Not even close to true. Especially as Peter mentioned. I am an authorized Campy reseller. I have even been asked to show proof of sale during a warranty. And I buy directly from Campagnolo! So don't be surprised if you're asked.

Also, I was Production Manager at American Classic for awhile. We would routinely get people who bought parts off Ebay that were grey market seconds that didn't pass QC. They'd send it in for warranty and we'd have to refuse it. Warranty is NOT warranty. Legal warranty is and it says so in their paperwork that comes with their parts.

I had to do it 2 weeks ago for a PLF Members front derailleur that I bought directly from Campy!

That’s the point. Where and when an item is purchased is often relevant to warranty.

So does the batch number indicate whether the item is a second?
Are euro purchased items excluded from warranty repairs in the USA?
