El Paso Riding - any PL knowledge to be shared?

I'm going to be in El Paso from tonight-Monday for some family stuff. Will have my mornings free (until noon-ish), and am looking to get some riding in.

Anyone know of any Saturday/Sunday group rides (road)? Or have any recommended routes to ride?

native El Pasoan...haven't ridden there in several years tho.

my experience was that most EP roads were not overly bike-friendly and in some places downright scary.

not sure if bikes are still allowed on it, but riding Trans-Mountain Road was always fun. long climbs to a pretty impressive view.

we also used to transport the bikes to the turn-off to Hueco Tanks State Park and then ride east on Hwy 62 towards Guadalupe Peak. going thru the Border Patrol checkpoint was always interesting.

depending on the time of year, you could have a stiff tailwind and make some serious mph with little effort. we'd just arrange to have someone pick us up rather than battling the headwind on the return leg.

hopefully a current resident will have better info for you.
