Opinions, please: Allied Cycles
There is a new brand of carbon-fiber frames being built in the US: Allied Cycles. Anyone has any opinions/experiences, etc., please...? Thank you.

Had the chance to meet them and talk for quite a while at NAHBS last year.
I was really impressed with the people and the bikes. Their business model/build philosophy makes a lot of sense to me. When my pocketbook catches up with my taste in bikes, they will definitely be on my short list. |

I saw the bikes at NAHBS too and was seriously impressed.
And this bike is on my mind https://alliedcycleworks.com/product...chanical-disc/ |

Allied bought the remains of Guru of Canada and moved it to Arkansas.
If you want All American, buy a Crumpton, Calfee or Argonaut. |

Wasn’t there some recent thread with grumblings about Walmart, or the Walmart investment managers, owning a share in this company? Not that it matters to me personally, but folks these days seem to care more about a product’s origins. I really like their fades, but not as much as they obviously think I do(price is just silly). I’d rather the $1500 domane slr that’s listed in our classifieds. if it were any color besides red....

Do they make their own tubes from US-sourced raw thread?

Wrong, wrong, and wrong. Sure they bought some of the remains of Guru...and moved the machines, a few of their employees, and some molds, etc. But nothing they produce is "Guru". The carbon fiber/resin they use is produced in the USA, and all of their bikes are built, painted, the full works right here in Little Rock, Arkansas. There's really nothing Guru about them.

Allied is all american. The machinery came from Canada.

Seem like nice bikes, but not a huge fan of the funding source.

You are assuming the Waltons are their only funding source?

I'm pretty sure a large source of their funding stems from one of their owners, Doug Zell (Intelligentsia Coffee).

They've plastered advertisements all over Bicycling magazine and the reviews of bikes listed have been touted as very good. Like others have said, they've bought Guru's equipment when they closed, but pretty much set up their own shop in Arkansas. First I've heard the wal-mart connection, but I'm not surprised as one of the Walton kids is a mountain biker who's put a lot of money into trails and stuff in NW Arkansas. Even if he is an angel investor, its not lot he's getting mega-rich off the bikes...he probably just hopes they don't lose money.
They look like nice bikes with a quality paint job....if I was in the market, I'd consider one. |

I have never ridden one (other than a quick test ride), but I built one up. It was an Alfa. It went together very nicely. I did notice there were a couple areas where there was paint over-spray. Not too bad, but still a bit unexpected for a frame that price. The owner did not seem to care.
