Mid Reach Road Calipers in Black

I bought an Ultegra kit and totally forgot the bike needs mid reach 57mm brakes because I was excited the new calipers accommodate 28mm tires now. Too bad because the R8000 brakes are rather nice :-)

Anyway, besides the obvious brakes from TRP,Tektro VO etc (Not interested in Paul M Racer for this bike). Is there anything else out there on the nicer end of the spectrum in 57mm reach in black I am forgetting about?

Thanks

I don't know of any others but can say that the VO Gran Crus are excellent. Had them for a bit and they are well built, brake really well, would run them again. That said heard the TRPs are really good too

Yeah, I've sold the Grand Cru but never owned and they certainly work. I kinda feel like the TRP 957 might be a better match style wise. The bike had Tektro 539 in silver and I can get black ones for little $. Curious if the TRP are that much better.

Thanks for the feedback.

Well, TRP is Tektro Racing Products. I picked up some 539s for my Cielo project because they were cheap and all black rather than the gunmetal of the 957s. Also I think the 539s are just as light as 957s..

I have not had the chance to ride them yet however.

Did-compe has some very pretty long reach calipers.

I have them (or had) on the Gunnar the Ultegra kit is going on and they work more than fine. I'm leaning TRP because they come in a matte-ish black and have a bit more angular profile closer to the new R8000

Thanks

I have the TRP brakes on my Hampsten, and I've been very happy with them. Good stopping power and modulation, and they come in both black and silver.

Agreed that the TRP’s work very nicely.
But the silver version seems to be quite rare.

i have tried them all, and the TRPs are the best of the bunch.

i have them on my zanc and my swan. the zanc has seen lots of hairy, technical descending and the trps are excellent when combined with the best pads.

Unlike Nick, I haven't tried all of them...
...but I have the TRP's, and they're great. Indistinguishable from "normal" short-reach brakes. (Although I also haven't tried the very latest generation of Shimano brakes.)

For black the 957 is pretty nice.
The R600 or R650 from Shimano for silver/chrome applications.

I have the tektro 539 on my bike, they brake well, especially with a good pad on them. I can't really tell that they aren't Shimano other than the logos of course.
