105 Di2 is here

From a professional mechanic standpoint I am extremely excited about this. It's going to be a lot of sales and a ton of easy work. From a personal retro-grouch parts hoarder standpoint, I am less than enthused. |

I wonder what availability will be like.
Shopping for GRX di2 and see eta of 16+ weeks. Too bad they don’t focus on delivering already released parts… |

My concern with this (and Rival AXS) is how quickly the bike is effectively disposable because one of the parts is unavailable.
My wife’s formerly 10 speed Ultegra Di2 was in the same boat - RD was NLA. But Al least I could upgrade to 11 speed. But will the frame-mount battery be available when this one stops holding charge? It’s on a Madone P1 so at least a reasonable frame to keep throwing parts at, but that’s maybe not the case for some likely 105 Di2 bikes. |

Does anybody know if this or Etap can be used as rear derailleur only?
I have been thinking I would like to use it on my tandem, but I cannot give up the triple chainrings. |

Its really a sign of the times/consumerism?.. that something as simple as shifting a derailleur seems to be going 100% electronic
The claim being what??? its easier? its faster? In exchange we swap the utterly simple index shift & add batteries,chargers,servos,micro switches? |

So where does this leave the current line-up for road groups? Is there still a Tiagra or Sora below 105?
If this is the direction they are insisting on it would be nice to see them continue to produce a non tiered mechanical rim brake group of ultegra quality to keep people on the road who dont want such things. I'm sure it would continue to be a strong seller.
