I have turned off the ability for new users to edit their posts. They have to hit the 30/30 mark before their account is upgraded. However, this won't stop them from joining and making random posts to old threads. Because of the way they are operating, they aren't being flagged as forum spammers and so they can get away with creating accounts on many forums. So the tools I use won't catch them at registration time...and they know this.

but, I really needed new poker chips. Also, I'm tired of US Casinos. I think a Malaysian Casino is probably what I want.... if I only had a line on one...

Thanks, we’re watching him.

More likely they have something they want to sell after all this time...

Beware of user laager - 5 posts (join date 03-15-2013?)

He DM'd me about an item I actually had forgotten I posted here for sale like 7 years ago (which I still happen to have). I told him that since then I have since moved to Spain and that with him only having 5 posts and I cannot see any history/feedback from him the transaction may be more complicated than he would want....I would need to make sure everything was insured and payments with buyer/seller protection (or post to eBay) etc. In terms of being extra cautious with low-post count users I asked he "forgive and understand my position if you feel badly about it."

AND... the insults started flying! Including a "I'll get one from someone how knows how to sell" and a "Piss off" and a block.

so take that for what you will. Just sharing the recent experience.

AirForce appears to be another spammer. If new users can still edit their posts, I expect that AirForce will insert spam links in these posts in a few days.

I think the ideal would be a system of creating (silent) alerts for mods when someone does something like the following:

modify two or more posts more than a week old within a single day

It's unlikely someone would do that normally; I can't figure out why at all, but maybe. In any case, there would be very few false positives, and by making it silent (rather than a published restriction) the spammers would have a much harder time learning how to work around it.

Of course that's harder to program, but if possible it would be good for this.
