Ottrot and/or Odonata frame Qs

Hello! I apologize if this thread topic has been over pondered already.
I have a 2007 Odonata, used-newish to me. It came to me w/less than 100 miles, it’s now up to 2k. I had an odd creak that’s gone away. Could have been the pedals or the seatpost. Anyway, I’m only 145lbs & bike as is weighs 17. I sought advice from Seven & they said take it to my bike shop. The sound is gone…

But I’m left wondering what if any Ti/Carbon frame issues I might expect next. I enjoy riding it. Feedback welcome.

Seven makes good frames....unless you crash it or assemble it incorrectly, you should not have any issues with the frame....getting it checked out by a good bike shop is not a bad idea.

My guess is that you are concerned about bonding issues at the ti / carbon joints....I have never heard of this being a problem.

Because it's age, it may not fit tires wider than 25mm or 28mm...but that is how it was designed, and not really a "problem'....

It's a nice bike....enjoy it!

PS - I have a Seven 622 SLX and love it...have had it about a year, and no problems whatsoever.

I have a 2008 Ottrot and have ridden the thing tens of thousands of miles. It is still as solid as the day I got it.
In fact, this summer I had Justin at Black Oak velo replace all the components. It looked like new again.

The fork only fits 25s, but it is still one of my favorite bikes.

Hi! Yes, I am wondering about bonding issues. I can use 28mm tires, since typical effective tire width <28.

In the 20+ years that I’ve owned and been around Serottas, including several Ottrotts, I’ve never heard of an Ottrot becoming de-bonded/unbonded ever.

I’ve had a few Ottrotts, no bonding issues at all. Two Sevens with carbon ti - no issues. One IF factory lightweight, no issues. Think if you stick with the high end stuff you’ll be ok. I’d be more worried about something hitting the carbon than the bonding. Through the grapevine I heard some of early Merlin ti/carbon bikes had some bonding issues but never saw it in person (blanking on the model, it was like the Cyrene but had some carbon tubes).

I've had a 622 SLX for 8 years and have had zero frame issues. I remember reading, somewhere, that Seven claims the welds on the lugs will fail before the glued connection. They have been using this Ti/Carbon setup for a long time and I have never seen problems reported. And, the nice thing about the filament wrapped carbon tubes is they are much better at avoiding voids and resin pooling. Maybe not as light as the common pre-preg layering approach but far more rugged.

From my days in the trenches..'seemed' like any unbonding issues on 'blended' frames were aluminum/carbon, not ti carbon..like some Vitus' and early looks that used aluminum 'lugs'...Also for the ones I saw, saw some 'bubbles' in clear coat around joint..but not titanium..

Ottrott owner here....bonding issues are not even on the radar.

90% of my riding is on my Ottrott. And it's seen some crazy stuff, everything from crap roads with rocks and mud and gunk to smooth 50+ mph downhills. Still pristine too (I take good care of it).

Not once have i ever blinked in terms of faith in its construction.

I have an '06 Ottrott running 25s. Can it take 28s with Zipp FC 303, F3 fork and SR brakes?

Carbon ti sevens aren't approved for trainers but in my years there I only saw 3 returned for bonding issues. All claimed they never used on trainer. It's an easy enough fix for them though.

can't help ya on that one. i only use 25's or 23's, on various rims, with dura ace 7800 brakes.

Probably not. Mine will clear 28's in the rear but the front contacts the fork crown. 25's are fine. Tubies on Lightweights.
