OT: cars you miss
Wish I still had this one.
It wasn't the fastest, and was downright dangerous in bad weather, but I sure miss it. Which ones do you miss?

My friend's 1972 Datsun 240z--we went everywhere in that thing (not his--but the same ugly orange...)

That engine and drivetrain was amazing! I learned to drive in an 87 bmw. Still miss the feel of driving that car and perhaps its just in my mind as i haven't ridden one for 15 years but id take one over the current series.

Sold this when I turned 40 'cause I wanted to avoid the cliche that I'm short, bald, 40 AND drive a Porsche. There was nothing I could do about the first 3, but the 4th I cut loose

Oh man, where to start...
Probably the 5 that I miss the most: -1971 BMW 2002 painted in Colorado (sherbert-y) Orange. It changed my world view on cars. -1967 Sunbeam Alpine. Mint and painted BRG. Drove that little car all over the U.S. -1974 Alfa GTV. Blue w/tan interior. It was everything that was lacking in the 2002 (FI, 5 spd, 4 wheel disc brakes) and a blast to drive. -1971 BMW Bavaria. Painted Nevada beige with tan interior. Smooth, Fast, very German. -1969 911E. It was Irish green with an off-white interior. It was a fun little beater 911 that was perfect in sooo many ways. I know where the car is at today (it's in MUCH nicer condition than when I had it!) but the owner wouldn't part with it for less than $100K Each of these cars were 15-20 years old when I owned them. didn't wanna sell it, shouldn't have sold it, but the rust and my wallet begged to differ. Sold it for 350€, current market value would be, even in the horrible condition it was under the shiny paintjob, more like 5000, and a good one closer to 20.... But it's not about the money, good Srs.1 cars are getting hard to find.

1968 BMW 2002 here. I owned it for 11 years, brought it up to TI specs and worked the suspension. It was a great, great car.
I once had a friend whom I drove around relatively regularly and said that "It may only go 60, but it will go 60 around anything". |
