OT - Streamng Media / Disney +

OK - so apparently I am an abusive parent because I have not subscribed to "Disney Plus" so my teenage sons can watch "The Mandalorian"....

I need some help figuring out how to do this....

Our home theater consists of:
  • TV
  • home theater receiver (Denon, 8 yrs old)
  • Surround sound speakers (5+ sub woofer)
  • Blu Ray player (UBP-X800M2) (connected to internet via ethernet cable)
  • Xfinity Cable Service

I recently got a new blu ray player as the old one was no longer compatible with Amazon Prime. I was hoping I would be able to just download the Disney Plus app to the new player....the old player (also a Sony) had a dozen or more video and music apps available. Apprently this is not hte case with the new one...Netflix, Amazon Prime and YouTube seem to be the only apps available, and I cannot figure out how to add more....

I want to make sure I can run the signal thru the receiver to get the sound...

I was thinking that the Amazon FireStick might be the way to go...the new blu-ray has a USB port in the front of it (as does the receiver) and I might be able to use it for the streaming...

Thoughts? Advice? Am I looking at this correctly? Any better solutions out there?

Thanks much!

We only stream TV service now and are quite promiscuous with providers so have cycled through Sling, DTVGo, Hulu, Disney, Netflix...

We run everything through a FireStick. Never had much of a problem. A few restarts now and then.

Before you pay for Disney, if you are a Verizon customer with an unlimited plan it is free for a year.

Firestick or Roku should get you what you need for ~$30.

Do you have a dedicated remote that works via RF or IR?
I ask this as not all devices are created equally.

For instance my setup.

Amazon FireTV with Ethernet connection LAN for internet.
From FireTV-HDMI out to Denon receiver.
Denon Receiver does all the audio and passes the Video out to the TV.
My Media cabinet is also in another room so works via RF. A simple Firestick will not do this. (Unless they came out with a newer gen.)
I use a Logitech Harmony Remote to create settings so with a simple press of one buttons all the tech stuff is done. (switching HDMI channels, Dolby Atmos setup, etc.)

Hope this helps. Don't hesitate to ask more questions. and yes you will be watching Disney+ too. It is that cool

Yes, we are with Verizon, but not unlimited...looking to change that too. But how does that work?? We get Disney thru Verizon....but then sign into it via FireStick/FireCube?

Going to finally "upgrade" to X1 (Xfinity) as well....just can't stand the constant "reminders" that pop up every 15 minues during prime time. I guess their marketing plan is working.....

No dedicated remote...all equipment is in family room in cabinet near TV

Ugh....technology.
