back on the bike -- kinda/sorta

back in april i pulled the plug on my cycling. full stop. cold turkey. as niner's coach george siefert used to say, i needed to "get a-fresh". spent the summer running a fair bit and playing some golf.

fast forward 7 months -- started messing about with bike stuff, pulled a couple bikes off the hooks to make adjustments, unloaded some retro bits from inventory and even sold my tacx neo2.

getting back to basics with my kurt kinetic and did a couple *very* brief re-acquaintance rides on the trainer. felt good between-the-ears.

I took about six months off the bike to finish my master's. I was walking thousands of steps at work, but my cycling fitness went away quickly. When I returned to cycling after submitting my thesis, my ass hurt, and thirty minutes was about all I could do for the first few months. I'm almost all the way back now and will reach my 2500-mile goal for the year. I used to ride 3X that distance, but being mainly on gravel and mountain bikes means fewer miles for a given time.

Hope it sticks. More importantly, hope you enjoy it and can stay motivated. No shame in stopping something that's no longer fun.

Welcome back on the bike. Hope you find enjoyment again, as gbcouple mentioned.

I think we all go thru phases.

Good to hear you are climbing back on. I cut way down and just ride for fun now no real training anymore. Just fun.

Just now 'coming back' after a 2 year bike riding stoppage...kinda coincided with the covid 'stuff'..Just another really busy problem to overcome along with all the rest. Just seemed too hard then, but recently broke out the Moots, did some flatbar experimenting(nope)....Charged the Merckx(still worked great) and did a little bounce around.
Won't say it was 'fun' but
For the OP, nobody, regardless of what they 'say', is surgically joined to ANY leisure time activity..riding a bike included. So, you hung up your bike for a while, doesn't mean a thing. Doesn't make you a bad person, nor getting back on make you a 'good' person...it's just a bicycle.
