On Topic: I'm an idiot
Swapped rear wheels on my Ekar-equipped Watia.
New wheelset has a 42, old one has a 40. Something seemed off, like I need a longer chain. Hmm... Ordered chain. Put original wheelset back on, went for a ride. Shifting sucked. Awful. Got like three gears with lots of rowing back and forth. Ready to give up on 13 speed, 1X Ekar. Then watched this installation/setup video. Lockout button? *** is a lockout button? My Nuovo Record rear derailleur didn't have a lockout button... Yea, the RD was in lockout mode. Not sure how that happened. Unlocked it. Won't have time to validate resolution for a couple of days...but.... edit: Also questioning whether I actually need a longer chain! (Yea, maybe in lockout mode... )

I'm an idiot too.
Was going to start a thread yesterday. I rode my flat pedal bike to work yesterday. When I went to put air in the rear tire I gashed my hand open barely brushing the pins on my drive side pedal when I pulled the pump off. Bad enough I had to put a band aid on it and then by the time I rode to work I needed to replace the band aid. Last night I filed some of the pins. They are almost too sharp and grippy anyway. But they were quite hard to dull. |

If I may, allow me to shake my fist at your cloud.
It's not you, but the relentless addition of unneeded features!!! Well, OK, maybe it's a bit of you as well.

This thread has a lot of potential to grow into a multi-page one...

There's always a way to make yourself an idiot for a day when you get involved with a bike.
But at least less so than a car or a house or a boat. |

Unless the bike is on the roof of your car when you pull into the garage at your house.

Bike was facing backwards and the rear wheel finally came up and out of the track, twisting the crap out of the fork and tweaking the frame. Also scratching the car.

OMG this. I refuse to use them. I’ll constantly be cutting my shins when not actually riding.

Here is my idiot move of the week. Pulled tire off in the house yesterday and did not realize sealant was in the tire as I walked it to the trash can. Nice trail of sealant showing my walk to the trash can. Wife not happy

OK, so what are we locking out with said button?

Whenever I install a chain I always get it on the wrong side going through the pulleys so it rubs against the tab on cage. Last time I thought I checked when installing but still got it wrong.

I'm guessing its either disabling the clutch, or locking the cage in a forward position to make removing the rear wheel easier. With a 1x clutched RD it can be a bit of a pain to get the wheel in otherwise.
BenB, for commuting check out the shimano flat pedals, they have a nice rubber pad on them instead of pins and work great for casual riding. |

When the Rapha rental fleet was made up of Open bikes with Ekar, people would often have terrible shifting … because someone had pulled the rear wheel and neglected to push the button in. @C40_guy, remember there's a difference between ignorance and stupidity, though of course it's possible for both to obtain simultaneously. |

God shifting seems to have been locked out.
