Advice for bike possibilities in Sydney?

Hi friends! I'm here in beautiful Sydney for an academic thing for the next week and a half, and the city is just gorgeous, it's screaming to be bikes around in! I'm not terribly excited by the bike share option, and I'm a grad student without loads of cash to throw around. What's my best option for finding a decent, affordable, and also enjoyable riding option in Sydney? Spinlister? Unfortunately, not too many options, and the few options are generally pretty expensive at that. Buy something used and super cheap on gumtree, then just give it to someone when I leave?

Does anyone live here or know someone who does, and wanna lend or rent me a medium-ish (I ride 53/54 roadies generally) bike to soak up this gorgeous city in?
