Replacement bolts for Ritchey 4 Axis stem

I have the 4 Axis classic stem. The bolts have always been soft and easily stripped in the allen head.
These have a non removable washer.

Has anyone ever found a good replacement for these crappy (faceplate) bolts?

I thought pretty much all faceplates use M5’s

Call Ritchey. They sent me some replacement torx bolts for my integrated bars when the Allens stripped below the torque specs.

I just bought a box of 50 black m5 bolts and used 12 of them on two moots stems with crusty bolts.

Ritchey sent me replacements but they were no better than the originals. They're really soft. I use a torque wrench and I'm not at the limit.
I was looking for some stainless ones.

I was looking for black stainless, but after a little google search and reading, the cheap bolts I bought (grade 12.9 - quenched and tempered) are significantly stronger than stainless.

Toronto must have a bike shop that can sell you some bolts, no?

The old bolts on the C260 were made out of butter but never had a problem with the 4axis... I literally removed the bolts from one yesterday and they seem fine.

They are M5 bolts, I believe 16mm.

Or a good hardware store. Most have a good selection of stainless and matching washers. Hardware store stainless may not be as strong as steel, but plenty OK for low tq of stem.

I believe those old design 4 axis stems use flat washers which could be replaced easily with some after market reduced diameter washers. There are tons of US made high quality socket head M5 bolts available, just do a search and match the right length. Newer 220 stems have captive bow washers, which are not readily available and replaceable. I did replace some of these 220 stem bolts with some high quality ones by re-using the factory stainless bow washers. I had to hacksaw them off and then enlarge the ID of each one so they become slip fit but that takes a lot of handy work to accomplish.

I believe that Ritchey does sell some replacement stainless bolts on their website.

I can't speak to the C260 and C220 Ritchey stems, but I have used all the 4-Axis aluminum models (WCS, Pro, and Comp levels) with no bolt stripping problems. In fact, I keep an eye on eBay for NOS WCS models since they have proven to be reliable and a nice blend of stiffness and light weight. The 4-Axis models also came with stainless hardware as opposed to the coated Cr-Mo bolts on current C220 models. Since the 4-Axis stem bolts I have used all specify a maximum of 5 N-m tightening torque, I can't imagine how you are stripping them out. Mine seem to last forever.

yeah, I can't imagine striping those bolts either. THey are super nice. Maybe the stem had non ritchey bolts or bolts from a different stem?
