Listen to his podcast with Mitch Docker (life in the peloton) and you should be able to get an idea of what makes him tick.

Super down to earth, spiritual guy that is in touch with his feeling. Pro sports needs more of it tbh.
Agreed. The whole podcast is excellent. I haven't listened to all of them yet, but of the ones I have, Phinney's and the two with Matt Hayman stand out to me.

I've been lucky enough to yak with a variety of 'real pros' here in the bike shop trenches of the republic..including Taylor..He is very spiritual, grateful, normal and really enjoys riding the bike BUT realizes it isn't forever and is racing a 'toy'..hardly 'mocking the sport(and it deserves some mocking sometimes)..he is not any distraction to his teammates.
Thanks for input from someone who actually knows the guy.

Yep, this photo of him only reinforces the image many have of him.

She is Taylor's girlfriend, but I feel like there is a reference I'm missing here.

What happened to him in PB this year was pretty crazy. This comes from my son who's best friends with Taylor and was either talking with him or exchanging messages. Probably the latter since both of them are very techno. Anyway the friggin chain ring bolts loosened and dropped out! I have never heard of that happening to anyone but there he was, apparently having a very good race (his words to my son) and feeling strong and well positioned at that point. And his friggin chain ring says adios. And then somehow or other the team car blew by him. So apparently two major mistakes happened and neither one came from him but they fell totally on him. But he's not the kind of guy who's going to grab his bike and throw it as far as he can and start kicking whatever's nearby, and thus capturing tons of video coverage. I would imagine, based on my limited interactions with him when in Boulder and in mail exchanges when he's in Europe, that his reaction was pretty much well, that's life, stuff happens. So yea he's mellow, but fully capable of throwing down the gauntlet and going full gas for the win. Note for the win, not for the glory. He's got a very good hold on what life is about.

My wee bit to add to this perspective on one of the most interesting riders in the peloton.

Whoops sorry, thought that perhaps Weisan posted the wrong pic. Is she referenced in the interview? Who is she? And yes, interesting interview. I hope he has a good season.

Kasia Niewiadoma. She won Amstel Gold today. And at this point, she is (not by a little) the more accomplished cyclist.

Overcame career ending leg fractures. If not for superior German bike choices on Tony Martins bike he would have had a world ITT on his palmares. (lost by 6 seconds iirc).
