Fun fact: Back in the day, when CSNY were young and full of coke, Crosby had two, tall, blond, twin groupie/girlfriends for one tour. Twins.

Neil Young Says U.S. Citizenship Application Delayed By Marijuana Use
Neil Young has revealed that his attempts to attain U.S. citizenship prior to the 2020 presidential election has been delayed in part due to the “good morale character” clause on the immigration application. “Recently however, I have been told that I must do another test, due to my use of marijuana and how some people who smoke it have exhibited a problem.” Young then cited an addition that former Attorney General Jeff Sessions made to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ “good morale character” by-laws that cautioned that applicants’ “certain marijuana related activities” could impact their attempts at citizenship. “I sincerely hope I have exhibited good moral character and will be able to vote my conscience on Donald J. Trump and his fellow American candidates, (as yet un-named),” Young added. |

NOT a "fun" fact. A sad, misogynistic fact.

going sideways on this thread for a minute, and always curious where people are "coming from"...
Would there be a comment if it was: Quote:

Neil has some good stuff, but I think his song writing is often obvious, if not generic, and his whole career often seems to be aping Dylan after Dylan did it. I like some Neil stuff, and he's good live, but he has long periods of output that are pretty worthless IMO (so does Dylan, but nothing Neil has made had the impact of a Blonde on Blonde, Nashville Skyline, etc.).

Yes, same response from me, although I would need to find the appropriate word to substitute for "misogynistic" . . . and I'm not certain that was the absolute best word to use in my original comment. My reaction comes from being a parent - of both daughters and sons - and the objectification/sexualization (and apparent celebration ("fun") of that) in Mr. Pink's original comment.

Nobody could calm down a hard core party in 1974 than putting a Neil Young song on the turntable

I had a buddy turn me on to Neil Young when I was in college. I remember him saying that you had to be careful listening to Neil because if you listen too much it'll make you depressed.

In that context he can be a little bit like that guy playing guitar on the staircase in Animal House.

I'm kind of off and on with Neil Young--BITD he was 'whiny voiced Neil'--but still some of those early tunes are earworms.
What impresses me (as with Dylan) is that he kept on going--the music got richer, deeper--sometimes failed (like Dylan), but sometimes amazing--some of that Crazy Horse stuff is fantastic--and Neil became an amazing electric guitar stylist--as Stephen Stills was initially--but it is like Neil caught up. Anyone interested--there's a 2006 documentary on Amazon (free with Prime)--Heart of Gold--Neil doing a show at the Ryman is the premise, and it does capture the flavor of the cranky old man--but also the story teller, musician and real guy... Shot by Johnathan Demme so the production is pretty good as well: https://www.amazon.com/Neil-Young-He...3513776&sr=8-1 |

You rate an artist by his best work. NY is a giant in that perspective.
