The Farmers Daughter

Anyone want to try it with me this year?
If you like Deerfield you will love Farmer's Daughter. Outstanding dirt ride, very challenging and well organized.

PS Dirtphalt will be back this year as well. Details to follow.

Haven't tried this one out yet. Might be good motivation to get in shape over the winter?

Looks interesting for sure. Nice distance. Will plan on it. Good to hear Dirtphalt may be back, too bad it took me years to buy a gravel bike. And I didn't even end up having to sell one of my road bikes as a compromise which was my biggest concern...

It’s a hard ride. I did it a couple years back on my old CX bike, set up with an old 9 speed DA 7700 9-speed drivetrain. 38-28 was the lowest gearing I had, and it wasn’t low enough for a couple climbs toward the end of the ride. In advance of last year, I replaced my crankset with a Praxis sub-compact with 34/48 rings, and threw on an old XT derailleur and 12-32 cassette. But I opted out of the ride; I think the weather might have been bad. Hopefully I’ll be better equipped this season as the weather will be better.

Last year had torrential rain the day before the event.
I brought my mountain bike, and was glad for it the first 10 miles, which were MTB style trails with a lot of mud.
After that the 26 inch MTB got to be a bit of a drag.
It also poured a couple of times during the event.
I was covered head to toe in mud by the end. Not a square centimeter of clean skin anywhere.

Here are some photos . . .

. . . from last year's ride.

I shot it from a moto for Jon and Andy, the ride organizers.

Here's 2017, when I rode it--or at least as much as I could before imploding. This is NOT an easy ride!

Unfortunately Keystone Offroad is already sold out. Farmer's Daughter looks tempting but it is a 5+ hour drive for me.
