29er or 27.5 plus?
I am looking to buy a Ti Hardtail (or YBB).
Thoughts on 29er vs 27.5 plus? I have an all mountain FS for technical rocky single track. This would be for riding Colorado mountain dirt roads and buff single track with my wife. Thanks! |

Ybb
I always thought my 26" YBB was great on singletrack.
Why do you want a plus if you have a bigger travel setup already. Also- What size bike do you ride? Seems to me a YBB in a 27.5 plus or 29er needs to be at least a size large to work well. The smaller sizes are funky because they have to design the rear end for the YBB piece to fit into the length of the wishbone. Bigger tires/wheels complicate this. |

For the needs you describe above, a 29er sounds like a better fit.
depending on a lot of things, like budget. . . One could build a frame what is made for both 29 and 27.5 plus wheels. Knocks two birds with one stone. enjoy!

29er for that purpose for sure or even a fat tired cross bike depending on the single track

Ti
Kinda of leaning towards a 29er, I had a Moots Routt which I loved but the mountain roads in Colorado are so rough, with 38mm tires it was just too jarring for this 62 yo.

I think 27.5+ (with 3" tires) on a full suspension bike is too much. On a hardtail, I really like how 27.5+ feels; the Santa Cruz Chameleon in particular.

If once already got a FS for chunky rides, I’d go 29er. I ride similar terrain on XC singletrack in Utah and 29er works better for me. 2.4” up front and 2.2-2.35” our back. Rigid.
Of course, you can buy a bike that fits 27plus, which gives you both options. |

You can fit 27.5+ in a 29er setup.

There was a “slim” 27plus Tire that came out years ago by WTB that worked in some 29er frames. But typical 27plus tires will not fit in most 29er frames. In my experience.

Boost 29er frames tend to support 27+ as well, at least as of the last couple years.
