I think most 27.5+ will also fit 29er tires - like the new Yo Eddy. For the riding you describe, I'd get a 27.5plus frame but outfit it with 29er wheels. That would give the most flexibility.

If you were manly, 27+, buff trails in CO==> 29

Carbon wheels do matter with 27 plus

I have an all mountain FS for technical rocky single track.
This would be for riding Colorado mountain dirt roads and buff single track with my wife.
Thanks!
I can barely spell 'MTB' but we had a 29er/YBB in the shop and it was a long, long bike(hit the ground on all our bike hooks, where nothing else did)...I think depends on you and which fits you the best..the 29er, even for me(about 6 feet) felt BIG...

For the type of riding you describe a 29er hardtail sounds right. Get one that can fit 27.5 plus in the back if your looking to smooth things out a bit or hit up some more rocky terrain. I love bikes that can take multiple wheel sizes.
I’ve got a Trek Farley that I run 29+ all summer then 26 fat in the winter.

29+! A fast rolling tire like the Chupacabra or Knard will be great for bombing down fireroads.

27.5+ is smaller than 29, and bottom bracket height suffers a bit on these “converted” bikes. Likely not an issue for the conditions you’ll be on....but worth considering. I just got a 29er wheelset for my 27.5+ bike just to gain 10-12mm of valuable clearance against pedal strikes.

Asked because I think Med frames or smaller are sometimes too small for 29er wheels but not so in your case.

I would definitely recommend 29. For gravel roads and single track it's best way to go IMO.
