Let's do something stupid together.
Let's do something stupid together to break up the winter boredom that's setting in..
Here's the challenge: 1. Plot out some sort of stupid ride - stupid hard, stupid long, stupid boring - whatever.. 2. Tell us what it is and why it's stupid. 3. Post the stupid route. 4. Set a stupid "get it done by" date. 5. Report back w pics of the stupidity. And remember, stupid is as stupid does - choose your own adventure and revel in it. ----------------------------- Here's mine: https://www.strava.com/routes/2898267751713452232 - edited to be a bit less scatalogical... It's a stupid attempt at climbing 10,000 ft. in as few miles as possible and as close to my driveway as possible without just riding the same hill over and over again - instead it's an out and back riding every ramp at least twice. Some of the hardest sections come at the end, which is stupid. The only part that's not stupid is it passes a St*rbucks at some point, so I can drink some stupid coffee w a stupid amount of sugar in it mid-ride. I also should be on a 33/46 by 10-36 and a 15ish lb bike, so that'll help. I need a dry weekend day - or a dry afternoon.. Trying this in the wet or dark would be really stupid. And I'll say I'm gonna get it done before Dec 5. --------------------------

I believe the above criteria are the same ones used by Bicycling ( and every other cycling ) magazine that I have seen for articles that they publish…

Someone started it, and somehow managed to convince others to join, now it's become a yearly thing. I did it twice before I finally said to myself, enough is enough,
this is stupid. It just came and went a week or two ago. http://www.dashugel.com/faq/

Sure. Make a route that seems ill-advised but a good personal challenge and join the party..

I love it Clean!
I'm in... Lets lock me in for a December 5th deadline as well. I live about 2 miles up a 5 mile climb of 1700', which on paper doesn't seem that daunting at 6.4% average, but that doesn't tell you about the mile plus that averages over 12% smack dab in the middle of the climb... I honestly don't mind hill repeats, but in keeping with the theme of this thread/challenge, I'm going to up the stakes... I've got five bikes all put together and rideable in the stable at the moment: 3T Strada Due, Giant TCR Advanced, Ibis Hakka MX, Twin Six Ti 27.5+ Hardtail, and the Cielo Rigid Single Speed 29er... I'm going to swap bikes for each of the climbs. I live right off the road, so I'll have the bikes ready to roll, and I'll roll into the driveway on the way down from the summit, and swap bikes, then proceed down to the start of the climb, turn around and head back up to the top and do it again... I'll have to think about the order of the bikes... Grind up on the SS right off the bat or paperboy it for the last time up? I have no idea what kind of time to expect, but knowing that 250w average only nets me a 33 minute time and 9mph average, and knowing that I can't hold that power for five efforts(lets blame off-season fitness and 6,000ft elevation), lets aim for a sub 5 hour elapsed time. I've got power meters on each bike, so it'll be fun to compare all the numbers. Last edited by Upcountry; 11-24-2021 at 09:12 PM. |

I think of myself as a map geek and couldn't place your location off the top of my head. After a little internet stalking, that area looks like it could be a really fun place to ride.

Hahaha... Are you a fellow GeoGuesser player?
It's incredible riding up here! Mountains in every direction, and some quiet valleys and rural farm roads. |

That route looks like some sort of hieroglyph or rune that was drawn while the author was tripping on LSD.

I thought it was a dead crow in the middle of the road

Everyone knows that the dead skunk in the middle of the road came first.
And on a moonlit night ya got a dead toad frog...
