Here's my current evolution of rando bike.
I've logged 6k+ miles on it. Custom waltly coupled titanium with a Clockwork lowtrail fork. It's definitely my most comfortable bike at the moment for long days in the saddle. I believe the longest I've ridden on it was a 1000km in Austin Texas this year because there weren't many/any sanctioned grand brevets in 2020 due to covid. I've been running 700c primarily but strongly considering hanging up the 700s for a while in favor of 650 for more bouncing. BB drop is 68mm which feels like the perfect drop of swapping b/w 700 and 650. Can clear a knobby 650bX2.35 or a huge 700c (only tried as big as 38). Juintech mechanically activated hydraulics. Campy 11 drivetrain mated to a SRAM 11-36 (now using long cage RD, no derailleur extender required) and Praxis 48-32. DT Swiss 350 rear hub, son dynamo. HED Belgium +. Salsa cowchippers, 46cm (I just can't drink that wide bar Kool aide). Custom one-off bag and rack. Those of us who do show up with the rando bag are the exception. I just can't divorce myself from the practicality of it. Food accessible while riding etc. And I do love love love low trail so it just works. Here's a link to an album of the "EIGHT": https://photos.app.goo.gl/RyZQT7nidVesdYDt7 I once had a Seven. Now, I have an Eight

Dipped my toes in the water. Would love to have a proper randonneur bike eventually though.

The bikes were probably evenly split between production race bikes with aerobars, and custom steel or ti. My favorite was this Rob English. Excuse the night time photo at the start; it belongs to a very fast rider I saw just once on an out-and-back segment. DSC_0117.jpg |

That English belongs to Jay Fichialos from Utah if I recall. Solidly strong rider, nicer fella. Rode with him in Texas back in March on a 1000k

I'm sure there's better documentation of these bikes but here's my photo album of the PBP2019 Concours de Machines:

Sorry Pal, that's one bizarre bike. Needs a blender, and a microwave to make it complete.
