I've avoided buying a Hirame so far. My excuse is that my pumps won't accept it. I have no idea whether or not that's true, but it's my excuse for saving a few bucks, and I'm sticking to it.

That could be a Paceline heresy which nets me a two week ban, but so be it.

I bought a pair of 100% LE Sagan glasses impulsively yesterday after deciding the 2% darker stock lens would benefit me over the Oakley Jawbreakers I typically use.

It has nothing do with the gold on the frame and lens matching the subtle branding of the model on the TT of my frame.

I suffered from a weight weenie syndrome last few days. Got some crazy light bars and seat post for crazy money. Hmmm.. wonder if I need a crank lighter than my Dura Ace. I know it's out there for like $1100 or something.

Just my 2cents but having been there & done that it is just not worth the squeeze

Price as you mention can get quite high & at the end of the day ...the first day is the only time you will note the difference in feel.

Looking back on many years of logs I see the truth is it is not about the bike at all. Times for known rides over 40+ miles with lots of elevation are all similar or very very close

This was my last build which was not too crazy but 13.8lbs
But as I said times ultimately same as a 17lb reasonable nothing fancy bike

Just musing here …

1. Good on y'all for your purchases, treat yo selves.

2. This thread was prompted by my thread titled "How ridiculous are we?" From both threads I believe I have my answer: "very"

Cycling is expensive, sure, but in 15 years of being into the sport and buying tools, frames, components, wheels (and cycling trips interstate and abroad!) I think I'm still well ahead of where I would've been if my hobby was motorbikes, cars, boats, watches, blow, booze, cigarettes or any number of other things middle aged guys spend money on.

I don't drink. I don't do drugs (MJ is not a "drug" ). I've had the same car for the last 15 years. I own 4 pairs of regular shoes. 2 jackets. A handful of tshirts. 2 pairs of jeans.

SO, which of my purchases are "guilty" purchases....... hmm, yeah probably the Bora Ultra's. lol
