Titanium landscape changing

This just came through my Facebook feed….can’t get link to article to copy but here is the main story:

BOULDER, Colo. (BRAIN) — Titanium bike and component manufacturer Janus Cycle Group announced Thursday it sold all company assets to Phil Joseph, a former real estate executive.

Joseph, an avid cyclist, purchased 100% ownership stake in the assets, which include Merlin Metalworks, Dean Titanium, Knight Composites, Ionic Bikes, and Rossin Bikes. Headquarters will remain in Boulder, and all current employees — including Dean founder and master builder John Siegrist — will remain to ensure continuity of operations during the transition.

Wow, good for him! Hopefully it is the start of good things for the new firm.

Always good news to see that people are keeping titanium bikes alive. They are always my first, and pretty much only, choice.

Hopefully he'll reach out to the original folks from those brands who knew what made them cool and not *****ty and bring back something worth talking about.

I am betting it will be a smooth transition.

Hope so. Comms over the past couple weeks have been noticeably more spotty, although it is beyond speculative to connect the two. But transitions like this have to lead to stresses within an organization.

Well, the first shoe seems to have dropped. I paid $2600 for the Grays All Road Frame. Same frame now listed at $3400.

Seriously. I think this mostly brings the prices into line with other builders. But if I had come across that frame now, not sure I would have gone for it. Good thing I decided to order in the spring rather than the fall.

Apparently a lot of info in the bicycle retailer article are speculation or incorrect. This coming from tbe former Dean owner directly in a FB post at the group he moderates :

I’m free. I’ve sold my company and am moving on to bigger and better things. The article is a little funny as John is a designer and sales person not a frame builder. So I don’t really see why they called him master builder. I wish the best of luck to the new owner and to the continued upward trajectory of the brands.
I’ll be exploring new ventures with my new found free time. It’s been fun sharing my welding and bikes that my team has made.

Link ( sorry for those not on FB, lots of discussion at the link)

Thanks for sharing. That helps to add some context. Might mean my Dean is one of the last off the line before the sale. As far as I was told, it is done and shipping next week. Hope that is the case.
